UNIMED is a network of Higher Education and Research Institutions, based in Rome, Italy, active in promoting academic cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region and in Sub-Saharan Africa, in the Middle East and in Western Balkans. It counts more than 180 associated universities and research centres coming from 25 countries on both shores of the Mediterranean. UNIMED vision is to be a dynamic network that combines the resources of its members in mutual support, so as to benefit our communities on a local, national, regional, and global scale. UNIMED mission is to facilitate international academic and research cooperation in order to enhance the scientific, cultural, social, and economic development of the region.
The University of Calabria (UniCal), established in 1968, is one of Italy's largest and most distinctive university campuses, located in a 200-hectare green area between Cosenza and Rende. Conceived as an innovative residential campus, UniCal combines teaching, research, student services, cultural spaces, sports facilities and residences in a single integrated environment. The university is a major academic, cultural and social hub in Southern Italy, promoting collaboration between institutions, businesses, local communities and international partners. Its international outlook is reflected in its diverse student community, with students from over 100 countries.
The University of Murcia (UMU) is an international institution with over a hundred years behind it. Today, it is home to more than 30,000 students (2,000 of them from abroad), 3,000 researchers and lecturers, and an administration force counting 1,200. At the same time, it is a driving force in society in the Mediterranean Basin thanks to its Campus de Excelencia Internacional Mare Nostrum (CMN). With more than 20 years of experience, both the International Office and the Research Office OPERUM are very active and have extensive experience in hosting European and international cooperation and research projects and promoting research excellence. Every year 2,000 people take part in our mobility programme, making the UMU the regional leader in Internationalisation and a key player in the Mediterranean area.
The University of Duhok (UoD) is a fast-growing institution in Duhok, Kurdistan region of Iraq. It plays a vital role in developing the community by instigating socioeconomic, cultural, scientific as well as educational progress in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The University of Duhok was founded on the 31st of October 1992, following a resolution by the Kurdistan Parliament to address the increasing demand for higher education in the region. UoD has grown today to an institution of 19 colleges with 67 Departments, 22942 undergraduate students, 1827 academic staff, and 2527 administration staff. UoD is a member of the International Association of Universities (IAU), UNIMED, the European Association for International Education (EAIE), and the Association of Arab Universities (AARU). The vision of the University is to be a leading university, committed to research and teaching, its foremost concern is to provide an excellent education to those who have the ability and are ambitious and motivated to learn.
University of Sulaimani (UoS) is a public higher education institution, established in 1968, the main campus is located in the city of Sulaimani in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. University of Sulaimani currently has 21 colleges and 98 departments, with more than 23.000 students, 2100 academic staff and more than 3000 administration staff. UoS offers Bachelor, Higher Diploma, Master and PhD degrees in various fields of study.
The University of Garmian is a public higher education institution established in 2010. It has 30 departments, two of which are aligned with the University President's office and the rest of the departments are spread out across 8 colleges. Additionally, there are 16 other departments across 5 colleges that offer evening classes. We also offer postgraduate degrees; in total 21 master's and PhD Programme in 4 colleges. The University aims at advancing knowledge and learning experience through research and innovation that best serve human society. Its vision is to become a leading university in scientific disciplines to shape a sustainable future in the region. Its scope of work encompasses a wide range of academic disciplines, with a particular focus on addressing regional needs through education and community engagement.
Salahaddin University-Erbil (SUE) is the oldest and largest public comprehensive university in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Founded in 1968 in Sulaimani and later relocated to Erbil, the university is widely recognised as a leading higher education institution in the region. SUE offers a broad range of academic programmes and hosts more than 26,000 students, contributing significantly to education, research, community development and the preparation of qualified graduates for the labour market.
University of Aden (UoA) was established in 1970 in Aden, south of Yemen. It aims to graduate distinguishable students and prepare highly qualified persons. It depends on the system of teaching classes distributed between Bachelor, Master and PHD degree. There are 17 colleges and 12 Scientific Centres.
Hadhramout University is a public higher education institution in Yemen, established in 1993 by Republican Decree No. 45. Its main campus is located in Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramout Governorate, with faculties also operating in Al Mahrah Governorate and Socotra Island. The university aims to provide quality academic programmes and research that support knowledge production, learning, creativity and community development.
The Kurdistan Agricultural Engineering Syndicate is an association that represents the interests of agricultural workers and agribusinesses. Its primary role is to support the rights of agricultural specialists within government institutions and non-governmental organizations, both in policy-making and on the ground. It advocates for the interests of agricultural specialists in negotiations with the government, policymakers, and international organizations to influence agricultural policies, subsidies, and trade agreements. Additionally, the Agriculture Syndicate helps specialists secure employment and ensures their legal protection. It also provides training and conducts research to improve agricultural productivity.
Selah Foundation for Development is a local NGO in Yemen working in education, economic empowerment and social development. It contributes to SDG 4 by supporting inclusive, quality education and lifelong learning opportunities. Through cooperation with government bodies, universities and international partners, Selah Foundation supports higher education, public education and vocational training. Its initiatives include university development, scholarships, student support and youth vocational training programmes. By promoting practical skills and partnerships with education and industry actors, Selah Foundation helps bridge the gap between education and the labour market and supports sustainable employment opportunities.
